There is a lack of social and cultural services to help transition and integrate the exploding minority population of Schuylkill County, Pa. Many minority youth who come to Schuylkill County lack social support, self-esteem, educational direction, job readiness, and a sense of community.
Minority youth and families need help as they struggle to learn their new environment, deal with their issues, and keep their families together.
MLKFEC's collaborative efforts and community-centered approach have uniquely positioned it to effectively deliver services to these youth and families. The Center has had extraordinary success in utilizing social and cultural Values, Beliefs, and Attitudes as assets to positively influence the lives of the minority youth and families of Schuylkill County.
We encourage and support youth to pursue, refine, and showcase their talents and interests. We develop a greater sense of community in youth and families through cleaning the community and enhancing the environment. We have developed a multicultural puppet show to teach youth how important it is to respect each other and accept different cultures.
We also help young men and women by providing mentoring support, building self-esteem, meeting educational planning needs, assessing and supporting job readiness, and building a sense of community by encouraging positive community interaction.
